Software Group assessed two new organizations for GSMA certification in 2019
Two new Mobile Money operators received a certification with GSMA, the trade body representing the mobile network operators globally, during this year. Software Group in partnership with MFR, an Italian private and independent international rating agency specialized in inclusive finance, are among the few certified to perform the assessment for the certification.
Dialog Axiata, the first Sri Lanka-based provider of mobile money services with over 3 million customers, and MTN Uganda, the largest telecom company in Uganda, are the two organizations certified on the GSMA scheme.
The project dates from 2017 and its purpose is to evaluate the readiness of the operators to maintain a Mobile Money system, according to a set of minimum requirements in 8 areas, covered by the 8 principles of the assessment checklist: Finance, KYC, People, Capacity, Security, Transparency, Complaints and Privacy.
Software Group is responsible for the technical assessment of the indicators covered by Principle 4 and 5 and have 2 individuals who are certified to perform the assessment in English or French.
After a pilot phase in early 2018, the scheme has been launched officially in the summer of 2018. So far, during the pilot and after the official launch, Software Group has participated in 8 assessments carried out in 6 countries – Sri Lanka, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Pakistan, Paraguay and Tanzania.
