mPEX International Will Partner With Software Group To Advance Financial Inclusion In Uganda’s Agricultural Sector
The company plans to reach up to 6,000 SMEs in Uganda’s agricultural sector and provide them with new financial opportunities with the Centenary Bank.
mPEX International, a financial inclusion services company in the African agricultural sector, will partner with Software Group, a global technology company specialized in digitalization and integration solutions for financial service providers, to advance financial inclusion in Uganda’s agricultural sector.
The project will include the design and implementation of a mobile app that will help small and medium agricultural enterprises (SMEs), plan their financing needs and manage flows of stock and cash to reduce the risk of loan default.
The mobile app will enable the SMEs to manage and grow their businesses effectively with better access to finance from the Centenary Bank in Uganda. The technology will also help Centenary Bank to increase its efficiency in client acquisition, loan origination and monitoring clients’ business performance to reduce risk of loan default.
As a result, consumers will benefit from an increased value chain with an output of food at affordable prices. On the macro level, the project is expected to foster economic growth with dynamic enterprises leading to a more productive economy.
“We are confident in the expertise of Software Group to produce an app that will improve business and financial performance for the SMEs and Centenary Bank. We look forward to testing the product and seeing the results in terms of greater financial inclusion; helping more SMEs build their businesses and with a knock-on effect on the value chain as a whole”, commented Clive Lightfoot, CEO of mPex International.
“We are happy to partner with mPEX International and help them achieve their ambitious targets related to financial inclusion in the African agricultural sector. Using innovative technology to bridge the gap between financial institutions and SMEs is essential for accelerating financial inclusion in the agriculture and driving economic growth in the region”, said Connor Hanan, CEO of Software Group Africa.
mPEX International is planning to target 300 SMEs in Uganda during the first year of the project and to increase the number up to 6,000 SMEs over five-years. Goals with Centenary Bank include growing the average loan to SMEs from $10,000 to $35,000 and reaching a loan disbursement target of $10 million over five years.
After successful completion of the project in Uganda, the initiative will be expanded to other countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, etc.
